"As i know from the early years of my career, it is essential that young athletes receive the help and support they need to develop and succeed. The level of commitment that G4S have shown to the members of the team is impressive and i am honoured to be able to play my part as the team’s global ambassador."
Haile Gebrselassie, the G4S 4teen Ambassador, is regarded as the finest distance runner the world has ever seen, having been at the top of world sport for nearly two decades.
The great middle and long distance runner of his generation, Haile has an enviable list of achievements including gold medals in the 10,000m at both the 1996 Atlanta and 2000 Sydney Olympics. Throughout his career he has to date set an incredible total of 26 world records, and is the world record holder for the marathon, with a time of 2:03:59.
The great Ethiopian is not only an instantly recognisable, world-renowned athlete, but also an incredible character who has contributed immensely to his home country socially, culturally and on the sporting stage.
The G4S 4teen programme attracted Haile’s support from its inception in 2007. He has been an inspiration to thousands of athletes over the past two decades, and is now committed to mentoring the team of young athletes to help each one achieve their own sporting goals.
