Zodwa visits fellow G4S 4teen team member Fanuel at home and helps Botswana to promote table tennis
15 December 2009
On the 3rd December 2009, G4S 4teen athlete Zodwa Maphanga travelled to Gaborone in Botswana to compete in a table tennis tournament, to raise the profile of the sport in the country, as well as to meet up with fellow G4S 4teen team-mate Fanuel Kenosi.
This exciting trip was the result of great initiative taken by G4S employees Sindi Soko and Nyaladzi Kutjwe. Nyaladzi had been approached by the Table Tennis association in Botswana with regards to assisting in promoting table tennis in the country. As a result of this, Nyaladzi contacted Sindi in South Africa, and the two organised the events for what was a great experience for all involved, particularly the young G4S 4teen athletes.
The trip included Zodwa visiting the G4S offices in Botswana, where the athletes met G4S employees, as well as Zodwa getting to see where Fanuel was from and what his life entailed. It was truly special event for all involved. The trip was such a success for all involved that planning is already under way for a similar event, which it is hoped will also include other African G4S 4teen athletes, Pauline Korikwiang from Kenya and Obinna Metu from Nigeria.
