19 July 2010
After four days of fierce competition at the Philippine International Convention Center, team Philippines walked away with eight Gold, five Silver and six Bronze medals. A fine achievement, that saw them come away with the overall title.
One of the most impressive performances came from G4S 4teen’s Charly Suarez, who was up against Thailand’s Worapoj Petchikoom, a Silver-medallist from the Olympic Games in Athens. Despite the Thai appearing a clear favourite on paper, Suarez, one of the country’s brightest featherweight prospects, easily overcame his opponent 7-1.
Following his victory Suarez commented in national newspaper The Philippine Star, “We just didn’t care about his credentials. All I did was to follow my coach’s instructions which was to counter.”
This strong showing from Suarez suggests that there is a great deal more to come from this young talent.
