Chris and Peter back in Cadiz

G4S 49ers Peter Greenhalgh and Chris Draper update us from their training camp in Cadiz, Spain

Chris Draper and Peter Greenhalgh training in Cadiz

7 February 2011

Since our last blog we've been busy as ever. We are just coming to the end of our third training camp in Cadiz.

This camp has given us a really good variety of conditions and generally really nice weather. A sunny but very chilly start changed into sea breezes and then for the first time the levante the famous local wind came in.

We have continued with the same day structure with two sessions per day and lots of briefing and de-briefing. We have put a lot of emphasis on profiling our weak areas over the last six months and this has helped us to maintain really good direction with the training. Our rapidly ageing bodies continue to demand plenty of time in the gym as well which is generally as competitive as the racing trying to show the nippers what for.

All our work is starting to show, we have some really good speed and boathandling and when we're not exhausted, we have been racing really nicely. The boats we have been training with have all been pushing really hard and it has made it punishing on mistakes. Again there has been a big foreign contingent. The first five days of this trip the races had 18 very strong boats competing.

We head back to the UK tomorrow night for a bit of down time and then return for our next camp and the carnival regatta later in the month. We are very very happy with our progress and we will look forward to coming back fresh to learn more and do some proper racing.

Thanks to G4S for helping us to train to achieve our best and to our amazing families for your on-going support. All the best
