Great Britain had three sailors in the final of the Finn World Championships on Sunday.  Five-time Finn world titleholder Ben Ainslie was not among them after being disqualified from both of Saturday’s races.  European Champion Giles Scott went into the final match race in pole position on Sunday with his Skandia Team GBR teammate Ed Wright in third.   In a nail biting final race Scott held off Denmark’s Jonas Christensen to be crowned World Champion.  The gold medal will go some way in compensating for missing out on London 2012 selection spot to teammate Ben Ainslie.

“World Champion sounds pretty good doesn’t it?!” said Scott.  “Obviously I’m over the moon- it’s taken me back a little bit and I’m not really quite sure what to make of it at the moment!”

Ed Wright also secured a bronze medal in the Finn class and Luke Patience and Stuart Bithell completed the set of medals for Skandia Team GBR with silver in the 470 men’s class leading the final race from start to finish.

Today has seen the second wave of World Championship action with three British crews, including the G4S sponsored pair Stevie Morrison and Ben Rhodes, taking to the water in the 49er class.  After the opening three races Stevie and Ben are currently sitting in 25th with four more days sailing to go.  G4S 4teen's Guatemalan sailor Juan Maegli also opened his World Championship campaign in the Laser class.  After a tough first race he will be looking to move up the points table over the course of the week.
