After a gruelling week of competition the Skandia Team GBR trio of Lucy Macgregor, Annie Lush and Kate Macgregor will go into the final match race knowing they have done enough to take home at least the silver medal.  After a courageous performance fighting back from 0-2 down in the semi-final to beat the French boat 3-2, the trio will face the team from the USA in the final.  After such a stand out performance the girls are confident going into the final medal race and have their sights set on the gold.

“I think all of us are all a tad tired [after a long event], I’m not going to lie, but we’re really up for it.  It’s been a really long week and we want to finish it with a gold medal now” said Lucy Macgregor

After missing out on an automatic spot from the group stages direct into the quarter finals, the crew have faced a long journey to reach this point having to sail through a tough repechage round.

“We feel like we’re sailing better and better, we’ve learnt a huge amount and still have lots more to learn, but we’re really confident out there and even when we lost those first two races we feel like we were the stronger team in some ways.”

Elsewhere on the water in Perth, John Pink and Rick Peacock remain in control of the 49er fleet, with a six point margin over the second-placed Danish crew.  The Olympic Champion Paul Goodison finished second in the first of the day’s two races for the Laser fleet, currently occupying the second spot on the podium.

G4S 4teen athlete Juan Maegli from Guatemala has also been sailing well in the Laser competition, qualifying for London 2012 with two days to spare.  This is fantastic news for Juan who is the second of the G4S 4teens athletes to qualify for the Games in London next year.
